Anybody else think it’s inchresting that buck is doing the same thing with taylor that he told eddie he was doing with a*a? Buck is staying with someone he’s not all in with. I don’t know if he just hasn’t realized yet or he kinda knows but hasn’t accepted it yet.
This ish is awkward. Buck’s eyes look hollow, his face is smile-shaped but without the light. Faking it until he makes it maybe? It was like he was humoring her. When she initiated the hug, i think he actually kinda muttered something like “uh okay alright” like he was willing to soothe her and let her know he was okay but his heart wasn’t in it. His facial expression was very Forced Smile #75.
Buck wants to want her but I think he’s slowly realizing that he doesn’t. Sound familiar? Every time he comes home to her after a shift she feels more and more like a consolation prize to him…and he’s NOT consoled!
He actually used nonverbals to firmly and loudly REFUSE to let taylor touch the wound he got when he was in Protective Dad Mode with Mitchell and Dom. She wasn’t the one who he wanted or needed to soothe that particular pain. Nah. He wanted to be at home with his family, with eddie and chris. You can see the very start of him ducking and diving her touch in this next gif.
I love how they filmed buck evading her touch. Like she literally can’t touch what buck has with eddie and chris even with them both being at a distance at the moment. Taylor’s right in front of him hugging him, but buck is still closer to eddie and chris in that moment than he is to her. The data mining operation she staged drove that feeling home too because buck seemed deeply affected that mitchell didn’t get to see his son. He was definitely talking about himself too. He’s given his heart to that family and doesn’t get to actually be with them.
At no point in the scene with taylor did buck seem comfortable, comforted, or at home with her. I really can’t frickin’ wait until they finally break up!!
When I see gifs of the newest BT scene, specifically the part where Buck not-so-subtly backs away from her hand on his face, it honestly feels like I’m witnessing the moment he realized “I didn’t want to come home to this. I don’t want to come home to this.”
He wanted to be somewhere else. With someone else.
She written saying this bc she’s a buddie bridge just like a*a. Of course buddie shippers knew that ish already but i think taylor’s refrain is important for the GA to see, coming from his current s.o. but actually applying to his real romantic partner, eddie.
Taylor is the constant voice of “it’s not about you” bc buck has got to move into “caretaker” mode for eddie. Eddie is spiraling and needs to be taken care of. He said as much in the balcony scene via madney proxy.
Buck has to move from bestie to bf level interaction with eddie. He’s basically there just a couple more steps. Buck is not at all selfish but he is struggling to step up and step into the caretaker role with eddie. He’s figuring out if that’s his place and how to do that work. Obvi the heavy lifting on eddie’s “mess” belongs to eddie but he’s got to figure out WHEN AND HOW to get into the emotional muck with him.
He’s getting there. Taylor is kinda the canary in the mine. The more stiff and hollow things feel with her to more he starts to crave the deep bond he already has with eddie (and chris). A bond that’s being accentuated too by the physical distance in scenes with eddie. They are still close and always have been. The distance is about their role in each other’s lives i think, shifting into new territory with each other. They have to decide what intimacy and vulnerability look as they move from besties to romantic partners.
Remember that scene in treasure hunt? Eddie is still sitting right there between bucktaylor. Thinking and feeling and spiraling…by himself.
Buck has to decide how and what he wants to be with and to eddie. Eddie has to do the same. But the onus is greater for buck bc he’s the one currently dating someone. Anyway closing the distance between them will go hand in hand with that decision.

Those two were my comfort fics lately and it’s been a few really horrible weeks, and I lost them both (plus all the others) when my harddrive crashed and the author deleted their fics and account.
On the matter of blood… without invoking vampires or so…
Some rambling on the matter of blood (I know, funny, granted how much we see of that stuff when it comes to a show about firefighters, but bear with me here) and 05x06:
Others have already pointed out the callback to Carla’s story about the red string connecting people who love each other and that shot:
The red string theme is closely tied to Eddie and Christopher (naturally), but I think it is a rather deliberate choice to have that shot including Buck. And all of that in an episode that may have started out as being about a prison brawl escalating pretty quickly but soon turned around to be about fatherhood.
Anyone else realize that the most recent episode, 5.06, is the first time Eddie has been around to see Buck freaking out about Eddie being in a life-or-death situation.
He didn’t see this cause well, he was… a little buried at the time.
He didn’t see this because being unconscious will do that to a person.
But this he saw. He was above ground and awake to see this. This was the first time he had seen Buck flip out because Eddie was an danger.
I have no theories or predictions. Just wanted to point that out.

▫️Buck and Eddie getting taken hostage together. All hostage scenes are pure fanfic.
▪️Buck and Eddie planning to take prisoners out. Also leaning into each other’s spaces.
▫️I know it was an editing mistake but Buckley on Eddie’s back. We all read these ones, didn’t we?
▪️Buck switching into worried and mad parent mode once Christopher is mentioned.
▫️Eddie getting tense and angry after prisoners threaten to hurt Chris.
▪️Eddie being calm and collected while Buck can’t keep his cool and jumping into danger.
▫️One of the prisoners threatening Chris and Eddie to get Buck to do what he’s being told.
▪️Silent conversation between Buck and Eddie before Buck leaves the ambulance.
▫️Daddy Eddie. Sorry! No, but seriously, him handling the hostage situation and this Buck. Chills.
▪️Buck completely losing his mind over worrying about Eddie and running to him once he heard the shot getting fired.
▫️The change in Eddie’s voice when he’s talking to Buck and shouting at SWAT team to get away from him. The trust, because he knows Buck will do the way he was asked to.
carla returning for the christmas episode…eddie’s arcs in this season revolving around heart symbolism…carla having already told eddie to follow his heart…the christmas episodes focusing on family dynamics…b/t hopefully having broken up by then…
I was thinking about how the hostage episode actually established a slight romantic undertone between Buck and Eddie. When the other guy (I forgot his name) told Buck to get out of the ambulance or he’d shoot him but Buck didn’t respond, he then pulled out the big guns (a very tasteless pun, I know) and said he’d shoot Eddie and Christopher. Like he’s only known them for a few hours and he can already sense how important Buck and Eddie are to each other that he’d know that shooting Eddie or Christopher is worse for Buck than shooting Buck himself. Like the show basically implied that Buck and Eddie are so connected that even strangers sense it, which has been headcannoned so much in fanfic! Not only that but the show basically employed the whole “do what I say or I’ll shoot your significant other” trope that we see in so many action movies. Like!!!!
Irrelevant side note: When Buck and Eddie got taken hostage together, I screamed internally because I read a fic that predicted that! Tho the fic ended differently 😂😂
I think why I have a negative reaction to an Rbb on stage is because while that was an interesting and fun time in fandom, literally nothing has changed in the 6 years since and has actually gotten worse in that time and it’s not a fun thing anymore…it’s a reminder that this shit is way past it’s prime
